Der Titel „Isa“ leitet sich aus der ältesten Schrift Nordeuropes - der Runenschrift - ab: dort bedeutet Isa „Eis“, steht aber auch als Synonym für Winter, Stille, Ruhe, Tod, ursubstanz, Konzentration und Ego.
„Isa“ stellt zugleich die Mittellinie dar, die den magnetischen Nordpol mit dem zentralen Punkt der Erdumdrehung verbindet. So befasst sich das Stück mit der Mittellinie zwischen zwei Polen im übertragenen Sinn: der inneren und äusseren Welt, der Ordnung und dem Chaos, dem Anfang und Ende, dem Licht und Schtten, dem Diesseits und Jenseits.
Geschaffen wird in diesem Stück eine zeitlose, unfassbare aber intensive und spezifische welt, die den japanischen Zen-Gärten und deren Reduktion auf Sand und Steine nicht unähnlich ist. Die Essenz dieses Stück ist keine Geschichte, sondern getanzte Poesie.

Dabei widmet sie sich der Ursubstanz alles Lebensdingen - einer Welt, die bis Jenseits reicht und der eine schlichte, reine Schönheit zu Grunde liegt. Yoshie Shibahara sucht das Menschliche im Zeitalter 21. Jahrhunderts und schafft dabei eine geradezu rührende Atomsphäre.“

„Für Kitsch jedoch ist dieses Stück zu klug. So kommt man letztlich mit Interpretationen nicht zu weit bei Yoshie Shibahara heterogenem Stück. Dafür führt die junge Choreografin mit erstaunlicher Raffinesse vor, wie produktiv unterschiedlichste Traditionen zueinander in Spannung gesetzt werden können.“

The title "Isa" derives from the oldest script of Northern Europe - the runic script - where Isa means "ice", but also stands as a synonym for winter, silence, calm, death, substance, concentration and ego.
„Isa“ also represents the center line, which connects the magnetic north pole with the central point of the earth's rotation. Thus the dance piece deals with the median line between two poles in the figurative sense: the inner and outer world, the order and the chaos, the beginning and the end, the light and the shred, the here and the hereafter.
This piece creates a timeless, incomprehensible but intense and specific world that is not dissimilar to the Japanese Zen Gardens and their reduction to sand and stones. The essence of this piece is not story, but danced poetry.

»As a choreographer, Yoshie Shibahara manages to convey an archaic atmosphere and to convince as a dancer as well. In doing so, she dedicates herself to the primordial substance of all life things - a world that reaches beyond the hereafter and which is based on a simple, pure beauty. Yoshie Shibahara seeks the human in the age of the 21st century, creates an almost touching atmosphere.«

»For Kitsch, however, this piece is too clever. In the end, interpretations do not go too far with Yoshie Shibahara's heterogeneous piece. For this, the young choreographer demonstrates with astonishing sophistication how productively different traditions can be set in tension with each other.«
