Intermedia performance & concert

What Is Singing is a performance for instrumental and computer music, dance, live video and painting, a homage to an imaginary past.

Based on the music piece 'Shen Ren Chang', one of the oldest, anonymous, tunes in the literature for the Chinese Zither Gu Qin, it attempts to reconstruct, with contemporary media, human condition in a past time of our ancestors, which is preserved to us solely by means of a small number of written texts and this one piece of written music.

The critically acclaimed premiere took place in Beijing's Zhongshan Park, at the tea house of the Forbidden City, in August 2007.
